Maria Tapia is the Transformation Lead working for the Vice President of IBM Systems Hardware Client Technical Team. She works on projects with the technical sales teams around the world to help them meet the challenges of a changing IT server market.
In her previous role, she was a manager within the North America Technical Sales organization. She led a team of technical sales specialists responsible with providing support for IBM infrastructure opportunities associated with SAP on z Systems. The team provides assistance to IBM and partner and field resources in North America and WW driving IBM hardware, software and services revenue. Her team also has responsibility for providing sizings for other z System ISVs such as Finacle, TCS, and Temenos.
Prior to this assignment, Maria was a manager within the STG Lab Services organization where she led a team of System z consultants specializing in Cloud, Security and Data Solutions. The Lab Services team focused on improving customer satisfaction with the System z brand as well as driving technology adoption and new workload onto System z.
Maria began her career with IBM as an Applications Programmer in Southbury, CT supporting IBM internal security applications. She has experience in mainframe and client/server application support and development. Maria was also a project manager in the technology services team within IBM Global services working with customers in the financial services, transportation, telecommunications and government industries in New York City, NY. Maria also had an assignment as program manager within the Global Workforce Diversity organization. In that role she was focused on programs for the Hispanic constituency and Multicultural Women.
Outside of IBM, Maria has several extracurricular interests including mentoring students to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Math careers, and is an active member of the LatinNet Business Resource Group at IBM. Maria earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Iona College in 1989 and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic University in 1994. She also completed an MBA at New York University in 2012.
